5cc Singer Tavern launches on City Road, EC1

Is a bar really a bar if you can simply walk through the door, sit at a table, and order a drink? Not if you’re in Shoreditch. From drinking through stilettos and clandestine password entry systems, the area’s home to hundreds of bars and cafes with quirk.

And on that note…

Last night saw the launch of 5cc’s newest venture, 5cc Singer Tavern on City Road. Hidden behind the secret doorway of a Grade II East End pub, the new bar sits right on the boundary line which separates the suits of the city from the hipster cool of Shoreditch.

Nestled in the basement of the listed building, the bar follows the Singer sewing machine theme and features exposed brickwork walls, neon signs, candlelit private booths, Chesterfield sofas, wingback chairs, and all manner of sleek design fit for a city-esque bar.

‘Yeah yeah so it has sofas,’ you’re thinking. ‘Tell us about the booze!’

Calm down, shakey.

The bar will be home to the classic banker favourite, the Three Martini Lunch, with diners offered a selection of the best martinis to pair with their courses. For fans of gin, 5cc will serve batch produced bottles of the botanical bevvy, most sourced from local London distilleries. There is also an extensive cocktail menu for those looking for something a bit more fruity.

We’ll be heading down in the next couple of weeks to see if it measures up to 5cc’s oh sew seamless reputation /endpuns
